Hello there! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today, and thanks for stopping by the American Crafts blog! Now that we’re into the final month of 2018, it’s a good time to stop and reflect on this past year, and all that it has brought to us, both the good and bad. I did that with a brand new layout, created with a mix of the reflective Field Notes collection and Head in the Clouds collection.
I began this layout by cutting out a “20” and “18” from one of my favorite papers in the Head in the Clouds collection, Counting Wishes. This fabulous paper would be great for adding numbers to any project, but it was perfect for this layout about our year, and it set the tone for two of the colors that I would choose to use—pink and teal. I backed these numbers with a strip of the b-side of the same paper, featuring a lovely botanical dark green print, and that helped me to bring a more naturalistic feel to this page.
Next, I chose a favorite photo from the year. There are many ways to reflect on your year on a project—you can choose to print multiple photos of highlights from the year, but I decided that just one photo, but more journaling would be best for what I wanted for this page. I printed it in black and white and framed it with a pink frame from the Field Notes collection, making it the focal point of the page.
Now came the reflection. I wanted to add a lot of journaling, but keep my layout un-cluttered. I did this by layering journaling tags from the Field Notes ephemera pack after printing my journaling onto the face of the cards. By simply scoring along the left side of the two smaller cards, and attaching them with a mini stapler, I created a book of my thoughts about the year, which I placed in the center of the layout.
My title, “simple moments” summed up our year perfectly. To give it weight at the bottom of my page, I added a series of border stickers, washi tape and the “relax, refresh, restart” tag.
To balance the weight of my title at the bottom right of my page, I added a cluster of embellishment at the top of my layout, too, being sure that I included all of the colors found throughout my layout, and the pretty, organic feel found on the rest of the page.
I hope that you’ve been inspired to create a year-in-review layout to reflect on all that has passed this year, and all that you hope for in 2019. Thanks so much for stopping by, and happy creating!
