Tutorial: Creating 3D Art

Hello friends! I hope you are having a wonderful May so far! I have an easy 3D Paper Art project for you today, featuring the new Project Pads at Joann Stores. This would also make an easy and colorful gift for Mom, if you add photos! Grab three different sized square punches and let’s start making art!

STEP 1) I punched the largest square from most of the solid color card stocks in the Project Pads. I made sure I had each color of the rainbow, since I knew my art would be in rainbow order! I punched several of each color from light to dark until I had enough of one color to span the width off my frame. My frame is a shadow box that is 12×12. Perfect for sheet of AC Card Stock. Once you have all of your solid colors punched with the largest square, move on to the medium and small size square punches.

STEP 2) Select tone-on-tone patterns, like this Paper 03, from the Horizon Project Pad. Punch medium and small squares from patterns for each color of the rainbow. The great thing about using the Project Pads, is that all the solid color card stock coordinates with the patterns in each pad. I used an entire sheet of the 12×12 Horizon Paper 03, and punched every inch of it! Gather your squares by color.

STEP 3) Gather your squares by color. I used one piece of white 12×12 AC card stock to lay all my punched squares on, so that I would know when it was filled up.

Step 4) Starting at the BOTTOM of a sheet of 12×12 White textured card stock, score and place each square as shown. I scored each piece as I added it to the background, and placed some foam tabs at one end of the point, and strong adhesive at the other point. Layer up from the bottom row, stacking solid colors on first, then adding the smaller squares of pattern in between.

STEP 5) Fill the background until you reach the top. Doesn’t it look pretty with all the patterns and colors of your favorite designer lines on one art piece?  We all collect so many pieces of paper, I thought it would be nice to create an art pice for your crafty area that shows them off!

STEP 6) Add a title or word phrase from any of your American Crafts Thickers phrase packs. This is an older Dear Lizzy embellishment.

See the step-by-step YouTube video for the whole process from start to finish!

Thank you  for visiting today, and happy art making! Leigh
