The Perfect Easter Layout
Hello friends! Leigh here, to share my Easter Joy Layout using the Stay Colorful line from Dear Lizzy. This line is so happy and colorful! I was inspired by the rainbow of patterns on the “B” sides of this new line. I chose to create a rainbow effect with the patterns under a machine cut title.
Most of the pattern on this page is housed in the negative space within the title. The mixed media watercolor is focused around the title, along with the photo. The pink “Funkadelic” patterned card stock was too pretty to pass up, and I had to use it as the background, underneath the Vicki Boutin Mixed Media Art Paper.
The Aqua Brushes from the Kelly Creates line are made for hand lettering, but there are so many ways to use them as an art medium. Here, I used them as a watercolor marker, to color on a piece of packaging, spray with water, and smoosh on the art paper. You can see above, that I splattered each color close to the coordinating patterned paper under the title.
At this angle, you can better see the dimension and texture of the punched butterflies in the title, and the layer of foam underneath the white art paper. The butterfly die cuts on top of the layout were adhered with a pop-dot, or glue, and the wings were bent upwards so they have dimension as well. Lots of layers on this layout to give some interest to the simple design.
Close up, you can see I used water with the aqua brushes, so that it would be lighter, and less concentrated color. This softer look makes another layer, but draws less attention with its softness. Turning the butterflies at angles looked more organic, and more cohesive with the fluttery look of the layout. Butterflies symbolize, change, renewal, and resurrection on this Easter page.
The photo of my two handsome boys, at ages seven and two, and all dressed up for Easter in collared shirts and dress shorts, is a cherished one indeed. How quickly time flies. What Easter memories can you capture today?
Thank you for joining me today, Leigh.
