Pastels: Charming Tags by Elsie

Hey crafty friends, it’s Elsie here again today with a project for ‘Pastel Week’! I love using a pastel colour scheme in my crafting, because it’s guaranteed that your end results will look bright, airy and pretty.

As soon as I thought ‘pastel’ I immediately thought of the Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful collection, because no one does pastel colours quite like Dear Lizzy does!

Creating tags is a fun and easy project to mass produce. These tags can be used on any number of projects. They’re great premade embellishments to use on your scrapbook layouts, easy enough to pop onto the front of cards and to even use as gift tags! They’re so versatile and are definitely a fun crafty project to make!

I started by cutting the tags from some of my favourite pastel patterned papers, which I have listed in the supply list at the bottom of this post. I used a tag from my stash to trace the shape onto each pattern and cut them with some scissors.

To create some extra interest onto some of the tags I either did some stitching or used some white ruffled crepe paper to create a frilly layer. I absolutely love how textural this is and how any embellishments, placed on top of it, shine!

Embellishing these tags can be as simple or easy as you like. One of my favourite tags is the cat-mermaid saying ‘hey’ and it was actually the most simple tag to make! I simply used one of the dimensional stickers, cut a speech bubble from white cardstock and used the collection’s thickers to spell out ‘hey’. I think this would look perfect on the front of a greeting card.

I also created pockets on some of the tags, which would be ideal for storing photos or journalling on a layout. I either used patterned paper or the specialty vellum to create the pockets, but I simply used my sewing machine to stitch them on. However I especially love the vellum pocket, as it’s fun to be able to see what’s inside it!

The bold phrase thickers and glitter die-cut words were perfect to make a statement on the tags. I especially love the way the yellow ‘hello’ on the blue polkadot tag pops, and how fun the ‘always groovy’ looks next to the unicorn!

These tags are also a great way to stash-bust! I had a few fussy-cut pieces leftover from previous projects and so I made sure to use them up on these tags. The rollerblades are a firm favourite of mine, as well as the butterflies (of course!).

To finish these tags I tied a bow with some white ribbon, so they’re ready to go and use whenever I need something pretty to add to a project!

I hope you try and create some of your own pastel tags this week, and thanks for stopping by today!
