Party Planning with Paper

Hello everyone, it’s Terhi here! Today I’m sharing an idea for my sweet daughter’s next birthday party. To be more specific, I’m sharing how I’m going to plan the birthday party and document the process from the beginning to the end.

I have two daughters aged eleven and nearly nine. Quickly calculated, I have already planned and hosted almost twenty birthday parties for my girls. I’m still totally lost every time I start planning one. I have tons of memorabilia from the past parties, but how I started to plan everything – I have no idea.

As soon as I noticed this, I decided I’d never be lost again.

My idea is to dedicate a thick, empty, handmade, book to the planning process and continue the book with documenting the party. This way, I’ll get the planning process documented as well as the actual party. Next summer, I can grab this book, read all the ideas I’ve had this fall, and use them as inspiration for the next celebration.

The book is made with the Slice of Life collection designed by Amy Tangerine. I absolutely adore this line. It's full of rich colors, perfect patterns, and beautiful florals! Usually the patterned papers are my favorites, but this time the inflated ephemera pieces got my full attention. You can see them hanging from the side of the book.

To create the book, I used a bookbinding tool from We R Memory Keepers. The tool comes with instructions that tell you how to use the tool and how to bind the book together. I used a mix of Japanese and Coptic stitching. As a beginner, the stitches might not be as tight as the guide says, and I probably used too large of an email, but I couldn’t be prouder of my very first handmade book. I’m pretty sure the outcome of the birthday party is similar: Not perfect but made with love and passion.

Inside the book are lists of ideas I have had for the party. First, I wrote down the possible places I had in mind. Next, I created the guest list and some ideas of activities and games.

Finally, after I scheduled the party, I started to write down the next steps, from sending invitations to creating a shopping list.

Now I can only wait to the party to start! I’m always keen on taking lots of photos during the fun, and this book will have another visit on my craft table. Thanks for following along! Hope you’ll have a crafty day!
