Out of This World Glitter Girl Layout

Hello crafty friends! My name is Leigh, and I am so excited to share my first American Crafts Design Team project with you today! Our theme this week is Halloween. I used the Shimelle Glitter Girl Collection on my layout, and was inspired to create a beaded curtain style feature after a recent trip to the nail salon with my daughter.

You can see the circular elements down the left side of the page, on the starry background paper (Treat Yourself). I created some of the circles to look like tags by punching circles from the 6×6 paper pad and then layering a white card stock frame over it created with a nested circle die.

The crochet thread is sandwiched between matching layers and hot glued to keep the thread in place. Those little puff balls from the Maggie Holmes Carousel collection were stapled and hot glued to the thread.

This close up shows the different layers, colors, and patterns. You can enhance the interest and the variety by distributing the colors and varying each row with an occasion puff. The staples and the turquoise glitter paper from the project pad, add texture to the circles.

For the page design, I chose to create a divided page similar to two facing pages in a Traveler’s Notebook. This trend is really hot right now, and I liked the idea of keeping the major pattern areas on the left side and the photo and journaling on the right side. I typed out the journaling on my We R. Memory Keepers Typecast Typewriter, and trimmed it into strips.

The layers behind the photo add some color to this very black and white section of the page, and add interest with the different textures of the glitter enamel dots, wood buttons, glitter paper, and Glitter Girl die cut.  The title is a sticker from the card stock sticker with foil accents pack. After adhering the smaller scale patterns from the six by six paper pad behind the photo, I used the AC pop dots to lift it off the background.

I love the way the large variety of patterns in this Glitter Girl collection make it easy to mix and match for visual interest. You may notice that I chose some patterns with a larger scale print on a white background, and others with a smaller scale pattern on a colored background. This way I could use lots of different patterns, but still maintain a cohesive look, since they are all in a unified circular shape.

There is a process video here if you would like to see how this layout came together.

Thank you for visiting today! Leigh
