Head in the Clouds Week

Hello and welcome to the AC blog today! It’s Meghann Andrew here, and if you’ve been watching this space for the newest AC collection releases, you’ve probably noticed the new, dreamy Head in the Clouds collection. This series of fairytale-esque icons and out-of-this-world patterns is perfect for creating one-of-a-kind cards, and I’d love to show you a few quick and easy designs that I made recently!

You can totally create simple and pretty cards by just cutting and pasting elements, but why not amp up your card designs by adding a special, yet simple touch. Let me show you how I did that on each of these three designs:

Each of the cards that I’m sharing with you today have been machine-stitched around the edge, and have a cardstock frame around the pattern paper. This helps to give the edge some weight and texture. On this magical design, I used a die-cut unicorn and the “believe in the most magical things” sticker for my sentiment, but took it one step further and added a glittery pink border using my Moxy glitter glue around the edge of the unicorn, adding a bit of extra magical sparkle.

I can’t even tell you how much I use fussy-cut elements on my projects. If something isn’t in a die-cut pack, then it can surely be cut out from patterned paper, and that’s what I did here with this sweet dragon card. I fussy cut the dragon in his beautiful, ornate frame from the Never Grow Up paper, then the sentiment, “dream it, be it” from the Royal Fanfare paper. Next, I added the fussy-cut book from the All Booked Up pattern and finally the pink ticket at the top, cut from the Let’s Sign Up paper. It all works beautifully together, and you would never know that it was from paper instead of an embellishment pack.

Using a 4” x 6” card from one of the cut-apart sheets in the collection is by far one of the easiest ways to put a card together, but what if you want to take it a step further? I first backed the card front with the “yesterday, today, tomorrow” card from the All Booked Up paper, then fussy cut the teal cloud to add to the bottom corner. I wanted to add a third cloud, so I grabbed the Head in the Clouds stamp to add one more smaller, textural cloud to the left side. How was I going to make this card into a sentiment? By adding some extra words at the top! I added “I [heart] you” using alphabet stickers onto a banner, and backed this with a strip of washi tape. They were all simple additions that made a big difference in the outcome of this card design.

Thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope I’ve given you some ideas on how to add special touches to your Head in the Clouds card creations!
