End of the Rainbow Layout

Hey everyone, it’s Elsie here! With St. Patrick’s Day coming up this weekend, I thought I would create a layout that will inspire you to document your upcoming St. Paddy’s Day festivities!

When I think of St Patrick’s Day I immediately think of a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow and some lucky four leaf clovers! So I decided to create a really bright layout with Shimelle’s Box of Crayons collection using a rainbow and some lucky clovers as the main elements on my page.

I firstly put together the rainbow, which despite it being so simple to make, is such a striking statement piece that I think will really add a ‘wow’ factor to your pages. I chose five patterned papers from the collection and arranged them in a rainbow order. You can really experiment and choose as many colours and patterns as you like, but I stayed relatively true to the classic rainbow colours!

I freehand cut each colour with some scissors, but I made sure the curve of each cut piece matched up with the previous colour’s curve. I did this by lightly penciling the arc of the previous cut piece and used that line as a guide on where to cut. So simple and everything fit together perfectly!

Once I had cut and glued all of the pieces down, I decided to do some hand-stitching. The rainbow looked great without the stitching, but I love the texture and definition this adds.

To create the little pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, I chose the dark navy section of the ‘In The Sky’ paper as it contrasted nicely with the colours in the rainbow. I also adore the navy glitter thickers in this collection, and I love the way the ‘yes’ sentiment looks on the pot… You can never go wrong with a tone-on-tone technique!

Creating some lucky clover diy embellishments is so easy, quick, and you don’t need any fancy tools! Quite simply all you need to do is punch some hearts from a green patterned paper and arrange each point on the same spot, so you’re essentially forming a circle of hearts. I used a green coloured pencil to draw some stems and on the bigger lucky clovers I stitched the stems. I also added some of the green enamel dots to the centre of the clovers for an extra bit of sparkle!

If you don’t have any heart punches you could always freehand cut some hearts. Obviously each heart wouldn’t be the exact same size, but I think that would just add to the clovers’ charm and you would get some really cute and whimsical-looking shamrocks!

Thanks for stopping by everyone, I hope you all have a fun St Patrick’s Day!

Happy crafting,
