Countdown to Christmas Board

Hi there, AC fans! Have you been answering the question, “How many more days until Christmas?” for the past few months like me? To help my daughter keep track of the days left until Christmas, and give her something to look forward to each morning, I created a Christmas countdown board for our home using the Sweater Weather collection.

To begin, I cut a Christmas tree shape out of chipboard using my electronic die-cutting machine, 10” wide and 12” high. I cut the same shape at the same size using the Snow Friends green patterned paper and adhered it to the chipboard shape.

AmericanCrafts_MeghannAndrew_ChristmasCountdown_01WOnce the paper was on, I designed an 8-1/2” x 11” sheet of green 1” circles with the numbers 1-24, as well as a “Merry Christmas” circle, which you can download for yourself at this link! Using my Sticky Thumb adhesive, I arranged my numbers from 24 at the bottom left all the way up to “Merry Christmas” at the very top, and adhered them to the Snow Friends paper.

I also used some of the larger Sweater Weather ephemera cardstock die-cuts, like the penguin and the snowman to cover some of the numbers.

To bring a bit a sparkle to the board, I added gold foil accents with Sweater Weather cardstock stickers.

I wanted to use a temporary adhesive to adhere the colorful paper and die-cuts over the numbers, and washi tape came to the rescue! I cut small pieces of tape and rolled them, adhering the cover to the number. Now the covers can come of cleanly and the board can be re-used next year.

To make a base, I used two pieces of chipboard, sized at 2.75” high and 6” wide and 3” high and 6” wide. I cut a slit in the center of the 3” piece, 2.75” high and centered. I covered both pieces with the beautiful Sweater Weather Warm Wishes woodgrain patterned paper, cutting the slit again through the patterned paper, and sliding the 3” piece over the shorter piece, forming an “x” base.

Once my base was complete, I visually lined up my tree board on the base, cutting two small slits at the top of the chipboard to hold my tree. Now our family countdown board is ready to go on December 1st and my daughter can look forward to counting down the days until Christmas!
