Hey AC fans, it’s Elsie here with a 12×12” layout to get you in the summer spirit! Whenever I think about scrapbooking summer memories, I always want to use bright and bold rainbow colours. And since Amy Tan is the Queen of bright and colourful summer collections I knew I had to use the Sunshine & Good Times collection for this layout.
I started off with this retro 70s-style ‘summer’ cut file and chose 6 different patterned papers and backed each letter in a rainbow order. I also stitched around the letters with some white thread which helped define them a little more.
Next I used another cut file, this time a sunburst one, and I sized it to be slightly bigger than my ‘summer’ title so it would look like it was bursting out from behind the circle. I backed the sunburst with the same patterned papers I used on the title, making sure that pattern spanned the same width as the letters.
You can honestly never go wrong by embellishing with a tone-on-tone technique, which if you don’t know, is where you layer embellishments and papers of the same colour together. You can achieve a really interesting and dimensional look with this technique, and it’s a great way to stash-bust and use lots of pretty things without making your pages feel overly cluttered!
The embellishments in the Sunshine & Good Times collection come in all shapes, sizes and finishes, so there’s plenty of variety to create really fun and colourful layouts. I used a lot of pieces from the 8-page sticker book on this layout, and I especially love the clear sticker butterflies which have gold holographic foil details. I transformed any clear stickers into die-cuts by simply sticking them onto some white cardstock and fussy-cutting them out!
I love contrasting the large die-cuts like the orange seashell and pink sunglasses with smaller embellishments like the adorable puffy stickers. Having this variety in size means you can achieve fuller and more interesting designs because it adds so much detail to your pages
The photo I used is one that I’ve had in my stash for a while, but haven’t been able to use because it was too green! So it was perfect for this layout as I could place it on the green section and it doesn’t look out of place at all. If you have any hard-to-use photos to scrap, try matching your patterned papers and embellishments to the colours in your photo!
Thanks for joining me today everyone, I hope you’re inspired to create some summer pages of your own!
