Hello crafty friends, it’s Lucile here! Today I'm going to share my tips for using watercolor in your scrapbooking creations. What could be better than a mixed media page to show you all of my tips? I promise that you don't have to be a watercolor professional to use it in your creations! I used the new Let's Wander collection by Vicki Boutin.
Before you even think about watercolors, you must choose the correct paper! I used Vicki Boutin's mixed media paper because not only is it thick enough for watercolor but it also has a smooth texture.
For this mixed media page, I wanted to create a circular decoration. I started by drawing a circle and arranged all of my embellishments around it. I fussy cut all of my embellishments out of cardstock from the collection.
Tip One: make your own background. By making your own background, you have the flexibility to choose your colors and theme. Often, I try to find background colors that match my photos or embellishments. The advantage of watercolor is that you can play with transparency by switching up the paint to water ratio. Less paint plus more water equals more transparency!
Tip Two: create your own embellishments. I love to use stamps to decorate my pages. Again, using watercolor allows you to color them exactly how you choose. Mixing colors can be a little tricky, so I suggest testing it on a separate page before adding it to your layout. For my page, I chose to use a variety of star embellishments.
Tip Three: add a finish. My third tip is what I call the finishing tip! As a finishing touch, I love adding paint splatters to my projects. To make them, I use a watercolor brush. I protect my photos with a sheet of paper. I flick my brush to create small splatter spots. I absolutely love how this turns out.
