Summer Party Decor

Happy Monday crafty friends, it’s Elsie here kicking off the week with some Summer Party decoration ideas. Have you heard of that saying “a party without cake is just a meeting”? I really believe that having a pretty food table is an absolute staple of any party, and it’s also a great opportunity to get a little creative with your party’s theme! So today I’m going to show you some easy crafty ways you can DIY your summer party food tables!

First off, let’s talk about the cakes! Whether you buy store-bought or make your own cakes, these decorations will definitely bring the “wow-factor” with minimal effort! And no one needs to know how easy they are to make! 😉

To make the pineapple cupcake wrappers I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut some yellow patterned paper from Vicki Boutin, and for the leaf toppers I used some Amy Tangerine paper (the specific supplies are all listed at the bottom of this post). I know that not everyone has a die-cutting machine, but these would still be easy to recreate by printing out the template and using scissors to cut each element out.

To create the palm tree cake topper I used some clear stickers from the Amy Tan sticker book, stuck them onto some white cardstock, fussy-cut them out and hot-glued each of them onto cocktail sticks. And to create the banner I used the donut alphas to spell out ‘party’ and tied some string between the trees for a really cute and summery cake topper!

Another way to customise your food table to your theme, is to create your own serving dishes from patterned papers! For my Summer theme, I created some origami boats and popcorn filled buckets and spades! To create the origami boats, I used double-sided patterned paper cut down to a 9”x12” size. Making these really took me back to my childhood, so if you have kids this would be a great activity for them to get involved in! To create the sails I glued a wooden skewer into the middle of the boat and folded some washi tape over some thread and cut into a pennant shape.

The popcorn filled buckets and spades were equally as easy to make. I did use my die-cutting machine to create these, but you could just as simply wrap patterned paper around a cup or jar to get a similar look. Again, I used some Vicki Boutin papers to create these and adhered the handle to the buckets with some gorgeous gems from the Bling collection. And I love how the popcorn looks like sand in these buckets!

Creating some custom straw toppers is a simple way to make sure your guests drinks don’t get mixed up, and they also look really cute! To make them I glued some summer-themed ephemera pieces onto pink candy striped paper straws. Not only are the straw toppers practical, but they’re also an adorable decoration for your table, I displayed mine in a glass milk bottle for a cute vintage touch.

And of course my DCWV Letterboard had to make an appearance! There’s nothing quite like a cheesy pun to break the ice and I used some of the 2” letters to spell out ‘flamingle’ because they’re the perfect summery flamingo pink!

And no party would be complete without some party favours. I created mine to look like beach bags by used some specialty burlap cardstock! I also think that no beach bag is complete without some flowers and pom poms, so I adhered paper flowers around the edges and used the Amy Tan tassels and inflated ephemera from the Sunshine & Good Times collection to create some cute charms.

Thanks for joining me today and I hope you’re inspired to create your own summer party decorations!
