Hello friends! Leigh here to share a layout for Summer Memories week here at the American Crafts Blog. I am using the Vicki Boutin Field Notes Collection, and an earlier release Feather Stamp and Die Set. I love that Vicki’s collections work together over different releases. When I saw all the feathers on the Wander Always paper, I knew I had to fussy cut them out and layer them on a page. It makes me feel like a kid again to get out some scissors and watch a show while I fussy-cut away.
I created a few wings on the page by layering the fussy-cut feathers over one another. The feathers all point to the photo on the layout, and are tilted in a diagonal to create a more organic feel. The photo and title and journaling are all clustered together on the opposite side of the pogo for more emphasis.
You can lay all your feathers out on the page and make pencil marks so you know where to stamp. Before adhering all the feathers, note where you would like to stamp on your page for a pleasing arrangement. You can see the layers of feathers are curled up for more dimension and the very tiptop layers are adhered with AC Foam Dots.
I stamped the feathers in white pigment ink from Heidi Swapp, and heat embossed them so they would resist the watercolor. I created coordinating watercolors with the Vicki Boutin Art Crayons and let each layer dry before adding darker sections of watercolor over top. If you add lots of water with the Vicki Boutin water brushes, you can let the droplets air dry to achieve the water line edge . I like that this reiterates the water in the photo. I added a hint of purple art crayon to the darkest blue to create the more pigmented sections over the heat embossed images. Create the splatter marks and droplets by squeezing the water brush while you flick the color onto the page.
I typed out the journaling and printed directly onto the Field Notes die cut by printing it first on copy paper, then lining the die cut up against a sunlit window and reprinting it again. I layered the Field Notes journaling die cuts under the photo to tie in the colors at the top of the layout. The title comes from the other Field Notes Embellishment pack of die cuts, and some more fussy cut feathers are angled under the photo here. I added some of the Field Notes watercolor stickers, and enamel dots from the last release as embellishments around the photo cluster. Some of the watercolor droplets are seen peeking out from beneath the photo layers. The journaling provides a reference to the wings at the top of the page and a subtle reference to the theme of the page. What story does your page tell?
Thank you for visiting today, Leigh
