Paint Spill Technique: Learn with Leigh Ann

Hello friends! Leigh here, with a brand new Color Kaleidoscope Layout! I love the bold and saturated colors in the Color Kaleidoscope line! I chose to create a layout about my art, and focus on the paint spill technique.1-ACDT-color-kaleidoscope-scrapbook-layout-1

One of my favorite products, debuting with this new line, are the Watercolor Markers! They are such a versatile tool, and coordinate so well with all of Vicki’s collections! After playing with the markers, I got the idea to cut the patterned paper in this collection to look like a paint spill at the top right of the layout.

You can either cut each paper free-hand or use a utility knife like I did. The We R Memory Keepers Glass Mat made this cutting job easy. I chose my colors, and then cut curvy lines. I cut larger curves with each added layer of paper. A quick tip for picking colors: make sure the colors coordinate with your photo for an even more cohesive look. I used some older American Crafts Thickers for the bold title.3-ACDT-color-kaleidoscope-paint-spill-scrapbook-layout3

An angled close-up shows the dimension created with some pop-dots under a few of the bentup layers. I like to bend the edges so each layer is fluffed up rather than flat against the layer below it.

The bottom left of the layout shows the photo collage, gesso, new stencils, and the Watercolor Marker mixed media on the page. I added the gesso through the stencil using the same angle I did in the top right corner. I also used the Color Kaleidoscope Die Cuts at this same angle again. I then added the paint brush die cut on top to create a horizontal line that points to my journaling. The Watercolor Markers are great because you really only need one drop, and then you can add more water with a Vicki Boutin Water Brush. That means you get a lot of bang for your buck!

The finished layout has lots of color and pattern, but still utilizes white space well. I love adding hand-written journaling to create a faster finished page. What new items are you most looking forward to from the new Color Kaleidoscope line? The new products alway give me so many ideas to try out! Happy crafting!
