Hello there, fellow paper crafters! It’s Meghann Andrew, and I’m excited to be back on the American Crafts blog today to share a fun project with you, created with the brand new, glittery Moxy collection! This line of products includes everything you need to make your projects sparkle and shine, and since this product line is full of glitter, I decided to document my daughter’s first dance recital—complete with a glittery costume!
The Amy Tangerine Sunshine and Good Times collection provided the perfect patterns and colors to use behind my photos, in pink and purple hues. I began creating this 8-1/2” x 11” layout with a smooth, white cardstock base, then topped it with the purple grid Major Heart Eyes pattern, cut 6” long. The manufacturer’s strip on this paper, which included a row of hand-drawn hearts on a dark purple background, was perfect for separating the top of the layout from the bottom, where my title would be placed. I matted my photos on the pink B-side of the Flower Power pattern and arranged them so that they overlapped slightly. The “so lovely” phrase cut from the Yesss Please pattern was perfect for topping my photos.
The base of my layout was kept white, but I wanted to make it sparkle, like my daughter’s recital tutu! That’s where I began to add the subtle shower of glittery, tiny dots falling from the base of my photos, which I added using the fine tip of the Moxy white glue, topped with an ombré of glitter colors in Amethyst, Blossom and Lip Gloss. The excess glitter went into my funnel tray for use on my title.
I wanted my title to be really special, and I knew that custom letters would be just the thing to make the base of my layout sparkle! I die-cut the word “dance” from smooth, white cardstock, using the Bebas Neue font at 2” high. To get my letters ready for the Moxy glitter, I ran the permanent, solid Sticky Thumb adhesive on the front side of the letters, completely covering them. Then I dipped the sticky surface into my tray of excess glitter, giving the letters a multi-colored, sparkly face. I adhered these letters to my layout using dimensional adhesive, then added the stamped “love” word below using the Sunshine and Good Times wood-mounted stamp set. A puffy heart sticker from the Sunshine and Good Times Let’s Dance Thickers added a different texture, and filled in the bottom corner perfectly.
To connect the top half to the bottom half of my layout, I needed a few elements to bridge the two. The “remember this” journaling tag from the Sunshine and Good Times ephemera die-cuts was perfect for adding my typed journaling, and I adhered it using dimensional adhesive at the base of one of my photos. Next to it, I wanted to add another sparkly element, so I grabbed the Moxy double-sided sticker pack. These fun stickers include adhesive on both the top and bottom of the shape, allowing you to add glitter to the front face easily! I simply dipped the front of the die-cut into my tray of excess glitter, and added a rhinestone in the center to create a beautiful embellishment! I did the same with two small hearts from the same die-cut sticker pack, finishing off my page.
The new Moxy collection is perfect for adding some bling to your projects, and can be used in a subtle way, alongside your favorite American Crafts paper collections! I hope you will give some of these techniques a try on the next project that needs a bit of sparkle! Thanks so much for stopping by today!
