Mixed Media Valentines

Hello friends! Leigh here, to bring you a few Valentine cards you can whip up while you play with some new mixed media supplies. I love to try out techniques on a smaller project like a card, and then take them to a bigger project, like a scrapbook layout. Today, my cards all use the Vicki Boutin All the Good Things line and the Mixed Media products. What do you do for Valentine traditions at your house? Mine always include cards and chocolate. See’s chocolate candies of course.

All three cards have different techniques using the mixed media supplies. They are unified by the use of a similar color scheme and the accent of black and white on each card. I will explain each card technique below.

This card came from my curiosity about how the Stamp and Die Cut Set could be used with craft foam. I cut the craft foam with the coordinating die for each stamp so that it was larger than the stamped image and created a shadow, or two-step stamp. This is a good way to get more out of your stamp set. Each size of the flower got its own color, and I stamped around the entire background this way. The Vicki Boutin Pigment Ink Pads created crisp images even on the craft foam. I love these pigment inks! I added the VB Iridescent Glaze with a stylus to the centers of the flowers for added texture. I used a stylus to dot the blue pigment ink around the background as well.

This card is quick to reproduce with the pigment inks and the Stencils from Vicki Boutin. I taped down the stencil and used the VB Bristle Brush to swirl on the creamy ink through the stencil. Different colors blend together nicely with these inks. I went from light aqua, to turquoise, to blue with the ink. Layer on the die cuts of your choice and your simple card is done.

I added the VB pigment inks onto the white background with the sponge and brushes in a rainbow pattern. Once that was dry, I layered gesso through the stencil, to create the white mandala pattern over the ink. Layer it over some patterned paper from the line and add a die cut title for a card that focuses on the technique.

Have you created with these mixed media supplies yet? Have fun and keep creating, Leigh
