Hello everyone! It’s Zinia here and this week we are going to feature projects using the amazing mixed media products by Vicki Boutin!
I decided to do something different and work on a motivational mixed media canvas. First thing I did was to prep my canvas with a thin layer of gesso. This will make my canvas accept color better and it will easy the process later on.
While my gesso was drying, I used a beautiful floral stamp set from the All the Good Things collection and created some DIY embellishments. I stamped each image with another color using Vicki’s Color Wheel pigment inks. Then I colored them in using coordinating colors of the art crayons.
The stamp set actually comes with coordinating dies but if you are lazy to pull out your die-cutting machine (or you don’t have one), all the images are extremely easy to fussy cut.
To assemble my canvas I started with some art crayons. I loosely added color without a specific plan in mind. I made sure to stamp my quote in the middle of the canvas to reserve the place for it. I could totally stop there but I wanted to add more texture and interest to that background.
I continued with some subtle details using a stencil and some ink that I applied with a sponge. I also mixed some crayons with Vicki’s iridescent glaze to create a colorful shimmery paste. I used that paste through another stencil using a palette knife.
Once I was happy with the whole background, I started adding my embellishments. I created a floral cluster with my stamped images and also added a few amazing ephemera pieces from the same collection.
For some final touches, I added a few enamel dots around to spread small bits of vibrant colors across the canvas.
