Make Your own Fall Mini Album

Fall Mini Album 111119-1

Hi there! It’s Terhi Koskinen here for the first time during my second year in the most amazing American Crafts design team. It’s a true joy to be here for another year and I feel absolutely grateful and very humble for the honor. Today I’m sharing a fall themed mini album created with the 1Canoe2 Willow line.

My favorite thing during the fall season is to seek the leaves turn colors. Seeing how the colors are changing is magnificent and it inspired me to take dozens of pictures and add them into a fall-themed mini album.

To create this mini album, I prepared the pages by first cutting out patterned papers in different shapes. I cut hexagons, a tag, circles and squares. A couple of the pages are cut with a die cutting machine and some with the Silhouette. Some I even cut by hand. If you prefer a more minimalistic look, keep all the pages the same shape. The biggest page is sized approximately 5” x 5”.

I cut out two of each shape and adhered them together to make a thick and firm page. Then I added a hole for the metal ring which keeps the mini album together. I ended up with 12 total pages.

The next step was to adhere the photographs to the pages. It doesn’t matter if some of the pictures are larger than the page, just add a layer of patterned paper behind the photo to make it look good on the backside too.

Be sure to leave room for embellishments. Try leaving some pages empty too! When you flip through the finished mini album, it feels better when you have some small areas to rest your eyes. In my album, every other page has an ephemera piece, a sticker, or a tag for journaling.

Finally, add embellishments. Place some around, underneath, or even on top of your photos to make a layered look. Try using various adhesives to play with dimension. A photo adhered with foam dots pops much more than one with regular double-sided tape.

Willow line has the most beautiful copper charms that I couldn’t resist adding to the mini album. I took some thread and made braids leaving each charm hanging freely. Wooden leaves hanging from the same braids are a nice touch too! These can be used as page turners.

Hope this project inspires you as much as the maple leaves inspired me. See you soon!
