Hello everyone! It’s Zinia here and today I’m back on the American Crafts blog to share with you a really fun and easy holiday project that you can create on your own or with your little ones and decorate your house while using up your paper stash!

My favorite thing about this ornaments is that they are very versatile. You can create them in any shape, color or style you want. For my ornaments I decided to use papers from the latest 1Canoe2 collection, Goldenrod.

I created just a couple examples of different shapes but I’d encourage you to be creative and try more ideas. For now, I’m going to share with you how I created two circular and two diamond shaped ornaments.

The easiest process is using a paper punch. It can be any size you want, circle, heart, star, square, the sky is the limit. I went with a 2” WeR Memory Keepers Clear Cut square punch with rounded corners. I punched out various pattern papers, then scored and folded them in the middle (keeping the pattern I want to display in the inside part of the fold). I went for 4-5 pieces but depends on the same of your ornament you can use more.

While the pieces are still folded you want to stick them one after another, creating an accordion piece. Once all the pieces are stuck together, stick a piece of twine on the spine of the folded paper with some strong liquid or hot glue. When the glue is dry, you can adhere the first with the last pieces of folded papers to close the circle.

You can try more intricate shapes using a digital or manual die-cutting machine. I used my digital die-cutting machine to cut out large pieces of the number “0”. Then I used the inner ellipse pieces as well as the outline to create ornaments.

If you are a crafter on a budget and you don’t own many tools and machines, you can still create amazing ornaments. You can just cut out simple shapes like regular squares with a ruler and a craft knife. That’s exactly what I did for the longer diamond ornament I created.

Although this is a very simple project it’s very fun to make and you can challenge yourself creatively to create exciting and innovative shapes. Also it’s a really great project to create with your kids and have them decorate their room with their very own creations.
