Field Notes Week

Hello friends! This week at American Crafts, we are featuring the brand new Field Notes line by Vicki Boutin, and it is utterly gorgeous! When I look at the line art and the watercolor effects, I think of a refreshing mountain hike with a sketch journal in hand. This collection is a breath of fresh air!

My layout today, is about our first ever trip to England, and how much we loved it. We fell in love with the beautiful gardens and I wanted my layout to feel like it was blooming from within. I cut a flower shape out of the Vicki Boutin Art paper and filled the negative space with fussy cut florals from the “Among The Wildflowers” paper. The blue “Happy Heart” paper peeks out from behind the fussy-cut floral images.

I used Vicki Boutin Art Crayons to create the watercolor splashes on the Art Paper background because I love the way this paper accepts media. I stamped phrases from the new stamp set from this Field Notes release in blue ink to blend in with the watercolor splatters. The journaling tags are beautiful, and I added one to the top left with some more of the fussy-cut floral images behind it to tie it in with the main focal point.

Foam dots, under the hand-cut florals, lift the images up and make them seem to be growing out of the layout. I curled and bent the leaves and flowers up to make them seem more real. The colors in this line are so rich, and vibrant. The photo is nestled between the cut images, symbolizing my daughter relaxing in the garden.

The hand-written journaling is lined up with the bottom of the negative floral space, and goes over the blue art crayon splashes.  Two die cuts from the Filed Notes Embellishment Pack, are tied near the journaling. I chose blue for the watercolor effect to tie in with the hydrangeas in the photo.  The foam title is from a previous release from Vicki Boutin, and repeats the black clothing and the journaling in color. When using such a strong focal point, on a layout, I like to keep the rest of the layout minimal. But that is a personal preference and completely up to individual taste. Do what you like and enjoy the process! Have fun along the way, and thanks for visiting today, Leigh.
