Hiya! It’s Jamie and today I’m sharing a layout featuring an extra large photo. I love using larger photos when I have a spectacular image but also when there are little details that I want to be sure to feature. In this image, I caught my nephew smiling but all I could see was his profile. Not to worry, enlarging the photo meant that that detail wasn’t entirely lost!
I printed the larger photo at 6×8 and the smaller at 3×4. I layered on top of some dead space in the larger image. Which is one advantage for using large photos. It also helped emphasize the story I wanted to tell, which was about these two.
I wanted to feature their names so I hand cut these letters from a multi-colored pattern from Shimelle’s Little by Little collection. I also wanted to make sure they popped off of the background paper so I watercolored the background and then outlined the letters with white and black pen.
Since the paper warped slightly with the watercolor, I backed it with a sheet of cardstock and then stitched the edges together using black thread. It helped flatten it out a tiny bit. Plus it added some interest at the edges of the page. Also, I really like borders!
To embellish, I added Thicker & Enamel stars, a tag cut from patterned paper, some washi, stickers and a wooden button. Since the photo and the title were large and in charge, I wanted to keep everything else minimal. I also kept the colors fairly minimal so the title would pop! I don’t use enlarged photos often enough! I don’t know why because they’re really fun to make.
