Father’s Day Cards by Zinia

Hello everyone! It’s Zinia here and today I’d like to share with you a few Father’s day card ideas. Just like with boy-themed scrapbooking, creating cards for the special guys in our lives can be a little bit challenging. I don’t know about you but I always have the tendency to start putting all sorts of pink and cutesy elements on my projects so staying away from them feels a little bit out of my comfort zone.

So what can you do when most of your embellishments are too “girly” for your project? Well there are a few tricks I came up with and I’m sure they will help you out while preparing your Father’s day card this year.

The key is to focus on a few simple neutral elements. Three things that can work on literally any type of project you make are circles, starts and typography. I’m sure all of you have items that will much in at least one of these categories. Now let’s see how to turn these elements into cards.

For my first card, I went for a pretty colorful design. I wanted something bright and bold so I split my sentiment in multiple lines and made each one of them different. I used some lovely thickers by Vicki Boutin for the word “dad” to make it pop and then I stamped the rest of my sentiment using a Dear Lizzy alphabet stamp set. For my stamping, I used the gorgeous Vicki Boutin color wheel inks that are super bright and opaque and stamped them on top of colorful pattern paper strips.

To back my colorful strips I used my mermaid markers to create a light watercolor wash border around them. For a final touch, I added a couple of Vicki Boutin enamel dots.

My second card is inspired by the night sky as my dad loves astronomy. It’s a great little idea to make use of all those metallic colors you have in your stash. I started with a black cardstock piece from my Kelly Creates project pad and wrote my sentiment with a mix of Vicki Boutin metallic markers and Kelly Creates Jewel brush pens.

Then I used the same Kelly Creates Jewel brush pens, to ink up some star stamps by Dear Lizzy and stamp them around. These brush pens are extremely juicy so they work great with stamps. The last step was to fill the empty space with little stars and dots to complete my night sky design.

For my third and last card, I took a more geometric approach. I worked with my favorite Vicki Boutin stamp & die set, that has a bunch of fun circle designs. I die cut some circles out of a piece of white cardstock and then I adhered the die cut piece onto a card base. I stamped painterly circles in those die cut areas and then I used a very light ink to add a few more circles around my design.

For my sentiment, I used a combination of letter stickers by Shimelle and Thickers by Amy Tangerine.

So these are my cards for today, I really hope you enjoyed them and you got inspired to create some special gifts for your favorite guys this Father’s day. Until next time, happy crafting.
