Documenting a Special Bond

Hello and welcome to the American Crafts blog! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today. Father’s Day is just around the corner, so what better time to document the special bond between a father and a child, whether that be between your spouse and children, or the love you share with your own father. When I saw a favorite photo of my husband and my daughter from a family trip last summer, I was inspired to do just that, using the All the Good Things collection.

The way my daughter is adoringly looking at her dad in this photo just says it all. I wanted to pull out all of the bright colors in this photo: from my daughter’s clothing to the flowers in the background, so I chose the fun Pop of Color polka dot paper first. Then to tone that bold pattern down, I used the blue b-side of the Birds of a Feather next to it. I wanted to pull some of those colors out toward the center of my layout, so I turned to the amazing Vicki Boutin mixed media products to help me create a custom background for this page!

Using the amazing art crayons, I added the colors individually to a piece of acetate, added water to the surface and “kissed” the background with the color, giving a soft smudge of colors from the left side of my layout toward my photo.

Once the colors were dry, I grabbed the floral mixed media stencil and CreativeFX iridescent glaze to add some texture as another layer. I love the subtle shimmer it adds to the background!

Once my background was complete, and my photo in place, it was time for my title. I chose, “your happy,” as that’s what her Dad is to her, and I used the All the Good Things foam phrase stickers as well as the Box of Crayons sticker book mini alpha tiles. Adding the title just below my photo started to frame the photo, so I added more embellishment on both the top and bottom, and also slid the blue journaling tag behind my photo on the right side.

MeghannAndrew_AmericanCrafts_YourHappy_02WHow fun are the All the Good Things watercolor stickers?! I loved adding just the right shade of green to this leaf sticker on the bottom left corner of my photo, and I topped it with a pink flower die cut icon.

In the upper right corner, I balanced everything out with a couple of large floral die cuts, the cute bird clip, that brings your eye to the photo, and the “special” journaling tag at the top, a most fitting word for the relationship shared between my daughter and husband. A few heart stickers from the Vicki Boutin sticker book and a few enamel dots finished off this colorful and special page.
