DIY Patriotic Home Decor with Meghann

Hello American Crafts fans! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today. The 4th of July is SO close, but I have a beautiful home décor project using the Color Pour collection that you can create in no time! That way, it can grace your mantle or entry table on this red, white and blue holiday!

This artistic and layered canvas may look complicated, but looks can be deceiving! The longest part of the creative process was drying overnight. With just a few pieces of paper and embellishment, I made it over-the-top patriotic! Here’s how I did that:

First, I used the Color Pour Pre-Mixed Pour Art starter kit to add red, white, blue and gold to my 8” x 10” canvas. I mostly used white! All you do is pour the paint onto the canvas and tilt the canvas around. There are also lots of tutorial videos on the American Crafts youtube channel if you need extra help with this. The colors created the most beautiful swirls as they dried. While the paint was still tacky, I added red and blue glitter, silver stars and gold foil flakes to their respective colors on the canvas. Next came the hardest part: letting it dry overnight!

Once my paint was completely dry, I decided to create a focal point on the canvas by adding embellishments to the bottom corner. I began with different sized red, white, and blue 3D stars. I cut these from the "Color Kaleidoscope "6×8 paper pad from patterned paper as well as red for a pop of solid color. Next, I created my "Land of the Free" title using small gold glitter alphabet stickers and the gold puffy Thickers from the "It's All Good" collection. I layered these on top of labels from the Vicki Boutin sticker book and a paper label.

I couldn’t finish off my canvas without an American flag, and the flag sticker found in the Holiday sticker book provided the perfect accent for this piece. I hot-glued it to the three-dimensional stars with a star pin. I also added a “4” pennant below the flag, the “celebrate” chipboard and “beautiful” sticker: one embellishment for each color on the flag!
