DIY Mother’s Day Cards with Meghann

It’s Meghann Andrew here with a public service announcement: Mother’s Day is less than a week away! Before you rush out to buy a card, create something beautiful AND more importantly, personal, for your mom! My mom certainly deserves a prize for putting up with me for 18+ years, so to celebrate her, I’ve created prize ribbon cards that are simple to re-create for a stress-free card-making session!

My first card features a prize ribbon layered sticker from the It’s All Good collection, which gave me the inspiration to make my own prize ribbon for the second card.

I began with a 4” x 5.5” base of the #HeartThis paper and topped it with a piece of Coconut Swirl smooth, white card stock. To add a bit of texture and pattern to the clean, white background, I grabbed a much-loved embossing folder from a previous Dear Lizzy collection. I love how the AC collections through the years can be combined to create beautiful things! After adding a balloon border from the Main Squeeze paper to create a nice horizontal shelf, I added the beautiful prize ribbon It’s All Good layered sticker, which I adhered to a 2-3/8” circle cut from the Good Times paper.

Once my main embellishment was in place, I wanted to add other elements radiating from that circular piece. I cut a small journaling tag from the Easy As Pie paper, added the fun gold puffy letter stickers to that, and tucked it under my prize ribbon edge. To pull in the navy from the frame of the card, I fussy cut the pretty dogwood flower from the Live Simply paper and put that under the prize ribbon layers at the top left corner. To finish off the card, I added a couple of sweet gold foiled strawberry die cuts (from the It’s All Good ephemera die cut pack) and two gold foiled accent card stock stickers. Three pretty pearls made this card feel extra special for my mom.

With my second card, I decided to create my own prize ribbon. I started with the base of a small, teal Homemade with Love baking cup! I opened the baking cup so that it was flat, then gathered the center to create a circular rosette. Next, I punched a 1-1/2” pink circle, a 1” banner edge rectangle and two 3/8” orange “ribbons” from the Main Squeeze paper to make the other pieces of my prize ribbon, which I added using dimensional adhesive. I topped all of these layers with the “you are magic” die cut from the It’s All Good die cut ephemera pack. I added this embellishment to a background of the Best Ever prize ribbon paper, which I just love!

Just like on my first card, I cut another journaling tag from the from the Easy As Pie paper, then added the lowercase puffy alphabet stickers to the top, tucking it into the rosette layers. Instead of a flower on this card, I added the “enjoy this” die cut, then the “ta-dah!” layered sticker flag to radiate from my prize ribbon. For a bit of sparkle, a few glitter enamel dots finished off this quick and easy card.

I hope you’ve been inspired to not only make your momma a card for her special day, but also think outside of the box and create a custom embellishment to top it! Thanks for joining me today!
