Hello there! It’s Meghann Andrew with you today, and for us, the start of school is only a few days away! The start of each year is marked with an obligatory first day photo of my daughter on our doorstep, and this year, I thought it would be fun for her to hold a little prop to mark the celebration of her beginning Kindergarten. Instead of a chalkboard, I wanted to put together something a bit more crafty, so I created a first day banner with the Box of Crayons collection—completely appropriate for a school-themed project!
This project was so easy to put together, and I can’t wait to use it in my daughter’s first day of school photos. Here’s how I created this banner:
Select eight patterns from the Box of Crayons 12” x 12” paper. Cut them into banner shapes, about 5” high and 3” wide, by creating a template and cutting the patterns with scissors, or using a digital die-cut machine. Next, punch small holes in the corners and thread through all of banners with baker’s twine, being sure to leave a lot of excess for holding or hanging. While threading, add the crayon journaling card from the Box of Crayons ephemera die cut pack in between the fifth and sixth banner.
On the crayon journaling card, add the details about the first day with black glitter letter stickers from the Stickers and Bling collection, as well as the rainbow alphabet stickers from the Box of Crayons collection. This will give your photos more information, just in case you don’t get to scrap them right away!
To spell out “first day,” use the large, gorgeous Thickers from the Dear Lizzy Star Gazer collection. They are the perfect size for this banner! Once your alphas are in place, it’s time to embellish—the best part!
Grab the Make Something paper from the Box of Crayons collection. This sheet of 12” x 12” paper has so many cute elements that can be fussy-cut out and adhered onto these banners with dimensional adhesive, like this little paint set and brush.
Don’t stop there! Grab the Box of Crayons cardstock sticker sheet, sticker book and the ephemera pack and add whatever embellishments feel right for your banner. Adhering them with dimensional adhesive helps give the banner more texture, and finishing off with a few glitter enamel dots never hurt.
In just a few minutes, you’ve created a darling banner that is perfect to mark the occasion of the first day of school! (Early morning smiles not included, but I bet this banner will help achieve those!)
Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today, and happy creating!
