Alpha & Bling Week: A Radical Rainbow Layout

Hello everyone! It’s Zinia here and today I’m back to share with you a really fun scrapbook layout using bling with a twist! I don’t know about you but before this project, I never used bling on any project. Nothing personal really it just didn’t happen.

Now when it comes to bling, most of us would think little sparkly dots as accents. That’s really lovely but how about turning bling into the rockstar of our page? I was super thrilled to see the new American Crafts 12×12” bling sheet cause that means I can cut nice and big pieces from it.

My idea was to create a sunray effect around my photo using strips of bling. I cut my strips in various lengths to make it look more random and interesting and then I built my sunray shape.

If you are a huge fan of sparkly products you can keep your sunray shiny like this but I felt that I needed to tone it down so I decided to customize my bling using paint markers. I used a mix of Vicki Boutin and Jane Davenport markers in almost all the colors out there.

Coloring the bling into a fun rainbow was one of the most enjoyable parts in the whole process. You can try coloring your bling with other media like paint or permanent ink but I find that markers are the most convenient, at least for me.

When my rainbow bling was all colored, the color palette really reminded me of the newest collection by Shimelle, Box of Crayons so I had to use some of it to embellish this page. I picked all the crayon images I could find and placed them on my bling coordinating the colors as much as possible. I actually kept all my embellishments going on a coordinating rainbow order to enhance the rainbow effect. I also pulled some glitter numbers from the latest Thickers release.

I used some black flat letter stickers in a quirky font for my title and a few splatters with some Color Shine sprays. To fill up the extra white space I had at the bottom of my page I picked a paper from the Glitter Girl collection and cut it into triangles to fill my corners and “frame” the design.

I really hope you enjoyed this page and you got inspired to create a fun rainbow project too. Get out your bling stash and look at it with a fresh and more colorful perspective!
