Hello crafty friends! Do you love to host summer parties while the kids are out of school? I know I love to customize some inexpensive dollar store items with paper-crafting supplies I have on hand, to create a cohesive look on the cheap. I used the Dear Lizzy Stay Colorful line with some decor pieces I had on hand from Heidi Swapp to make the decor look higher end.
See the whole party scheme is based on the pineapple and flamingo theme, or a tropical theme. We can create three simple paper-craft decor items to customize the look. I made a pineapple banner, food signs, and napkin rings ( also can be used as drink markers).
The banner kit from Heidi Swapp was purchased last summer at Michael’s and adds a metallic gold shine to the party items. I drew pineapples with a pencil, and traced them onto the Stay Colorful pattern papers.
I created napkins rings or drink markers with a few punched shapes. I punched a pineapple from the yellow Dear Lizzy paper , Monstera leaves from the Amy Tangerine Sunshine and Good Times line, and the flower shape from the pink Dear Lizzy paper.
Here are the napkin rings styled on a plate, or you could adhere the ring around the stem of a glass as a drink marker.
Food signs are a great way to customize your decor and many people have food allergies, so signs are a good way to keep them informed. I made the signs with the pink Dear Lizzy paper and added more punched shapes like the napkin rings.
The food signs look a lot better on the Heidi Swapp Photo Stand from Michael’s and I hand lettered the wording on the signs to coordinate with my pink, aqua, and yellow color scheme.
What type of summer decor do you like to make? thank you for joining me today, Leigh
